What transboutique is - and what it isn't ...

About transboutiqueFirst, a quick word on what transboutique is NOT:
  1. transboutique is not a "sex site";
  2. transboutique is not a dating service
  3. transboutique is not a place to "hook up" with people in the transgendered community;
  4. transboutique is not a place to be rude or discourteous
transboutique.com is a transgender/transsexual support forum that is also dedicated to educating the general public on issues regarding gender roles and identities, to supportive discussions of people who find they don't fit in the "binary gender model", as well as a place where their friends, family, co-workers, teachers, parents, spouses, and children and ask questions and hopefully find a few answers.

  • addresses that are extra-spammy, such as .ru, gaweb.com, or gmx.com cannot register accounts.

    How do I ...

I want to add a story or start a new discussion thread

You can add a new story for discussion by clicking on "Submit story" at the top of this page. Since story submissions are moderated, it will not appear immediately. This is to help prevent spam, to keep discussions clean and on-topic, and also to give a chance for editing stories for such things as typos, proper formatting, or to reformat any included images to better fit the site layout.

Remember when submitting that you should also click the "Notify me of any comments" checkbox if you want to receive feedback from other users (you have to be logged in for it to work, since it needs your email address).

I want to add links to the link library

Click on "Links" at the top of the page, select the category, and add your link.

You can also add descriptive text. If it's a link to a news story or article, the first paragraph will give people an idea of it's content. If it's a link to a web site, something from the "About" page might be a good idea.

I think you should add a new topic

    Rules

    Respect

Users of this site are expected to treat each other with respect, and to observe the niceties of civil discourse, including the proper use of pronouns. If someone is presenting as a particular gender, please refer to them in that gender.

    Forms of address

In no case will "outing" someone be tolerated. Neither will referring to someone in the "wrong gender" - users are expected to treat each other with at least the same consideration they would like to receive. If someone presents as female, proper pronouns, such as "she" and "her", are expected.

If someone is posting under a "nom-de-plume" or pseudonym, and not engaging in sock-puppetry, users should respect their privacy. Also, it is considered both gauche and just plain wrong to refer to someone by their previous gender and/or name.

    Sock-puppets, trolling, and spam

Just don't, okay? We're trying to do something constructive here.

    Bans and moderation

The site is moderated. Comments that are inappropriate, foul, mean, destructive, flame-bait, etc., will be removed.

Repeated violations will get the user account disabled temporarily or permanently, and/or their IP address blocked. Additionally, people known for their abuse of transsexuals or the transgendered are on the banned list as set out in the terms of use.

If there are too many comments that violate the rules of the site, comments will be entered into a moderation queue instead of being posted. I apologize in advance for the inconvenience if and when this happens; hopefully it won't be too often, or for too long a period at any one time.

    Privacy

No, there is no advertising on this site, no tracking by Google Analytics or any other program, except for the stuff that normally appears in the server logs, which I won't look at except to see where spam or trolls are coming from. I don't share your information with anyone, including any advertisers or partners, because there are none - this is a privately-run site, as part of my contribution to the community and society at large.

The site is hosted in Quebec, Canada, which means that it is exempt from both the PATRIOT and DMCA. Both Canada and Quebec have effective privacy laws, and, unlike some other parts of the world, transsexuals, and increasingly, the transgendered, are protected from discrimination and abuse by law. We will not respond to requests for private information that are not accompanied by a valid warrant or court order.

You pretty much covered it, I think. Why not use the main paragraph for the "about this forum" thingie, too?

Wonderful! I shall be back when I arise tomorrow - my best thinking time is early here.

Congrats on the site! It looks very good. What a potential - a place for TG/TS to actually communicate without fighting.

As for me, I have no problem with being a "transsexual woman", any more than I am a Canadian Woman", a tall woman, etc. The word "transsexual" is an adjective, one of many that might be used to describe me. It is not an insult to me but rather a source of pride. It amazes me that those who have lived forty or more year as a male can discard - or say they have abandoned - so much of their lives on this poor planet. No matter how they have led their lives, they have had good and bad as memories. Nor do I have any issue with being "transgendered", for as you say, it is merely a term to include not only transsexuals, pre- and post-, but others who are "sisters". Why should we fight over such silly and small things when we have so much to treasure? As I say to my "normal" friends, I have taken the most wonderful journey that anyone can take without leaving this planet or traveling in time.

As always, the words above and any that follow are representative only of my opinion, not a demand that all must agree. They are not intended as any manifesto.

Barb, you have done a wonder job in setting this site up and let's break a bottle over its bow!

    Hugs,
    Willow

Exactly!  Hopefully we'll be able to preserve that sort of "inclusive" thinking.  Support is support - we shouldn't exclude a kind word or a piece of cogent advice, thoughtfully given, just because the other person has a slightly different personal life.

    That's a terrific introduction -- IMO it's a keeper.
